The Bangladeshi-Canadian Community Services (BCS) addresses the well-being of women, men, seniors, children, youths and minority and disadvantaged people living in the Crescent Town, Teesdale, Dawes, Gower and Danforth area of the City of East York. We are a central source of information serving as a link between available resources and the clients living in our catchments areas who need them.
Ongoing programs include information and referral services, free legal clinics and a variety of support groups. Seasonal program brochures detail special events and educational workshops. The organization is a non-threatening, informal and supportive place, accessible to women, men, seniors, youths and children of all socio-economic and ethno-racial backgrounds living in BCS catchments areas (i.e. Crescent Town, Teesdale, Dawes, Gower and Danforth)
Any individual of 18 years or older interested in the community wellbeing and that he/she respects the mission, mandate and abides by the by-laws, can become a member of BCS. He/she requires filling out the membership form and pays annual membership subscription to BCS and subject to approval of the Board of Directors prior to become a member.
BCS offers volunteering opportunities for newcomers and immigrants living in our catchments areas and other areas as well to help newcomers with filling up forms & computer use; helping in the translation of documents in Bengali, data entry, clerical work, practicing customer services and also receive job search and training support from BCS. This provides volunteers to
- gain valuable experience by helping newcomers as well as BCS programs management
- find networking opportunities
- upgrade workplace skills and resume
- reach new heights of employment potentials
- receive referral letter after completion of 50 hour/8 weeks of volunteer services
BCS welcomes anyone as a volunteer, who represents the mandates and well-being of our organization. Without volunteers, we would not be able to provide the services we do to women in need.
